      CDUG hosts a day with John Campbell covering DB2 Performance,
      Migration and Futures!


      The Colorado DB2 User Group for z/OS is hosting their winter meeting in Colorado Springs at the
      FedEx Rocky Mountain Technology Center on Thursday, December 11, 2008. We have a full
      day of technical DB2 presentations lined up.

      Optimizing System Performance Using DB2 Statistics Trace [part I & II] - John Campbell
      This presentation introduces and discusses DB2 for z/OS V8 system performance monitoring and
      tuning issues and recommendations. It will focus on key areas of bufferpool, group bufferpool,
      lock/latch contention, system address space CPU and EDM Pool Tuning; identify the key
      performance indicators to be monitored; provide rules-of-thumb to be applied, provide tuning
      advice for common problems.

      DB2 technical update and recent technical announcements – Kevin Harrison


      DB2 9 for z/OS Migration Planning and Experiences [part I & II] – John Campbell
      This presentation will cover deprecated/removed function, new post GA function to be delivered,
      planned stability, planning for rebind and access path change, VSCR,
      CPU improvement/regression, LRSN spin, improvements to COPY and RECOVER, object level
      recovery from system level backup, reordered row format, etc. In addition, the presentation will
      share early customer migration experience. Share lessons learned, surprises, pitfalls. Will provide
      hints and tips, address some myths, provide additional planning information and information on
      new enhancements.

      DB2 Trends & Directions – John Campbell
      This presentation will talk about technology trends and tracks for DB2 for z/OS. It will represent
      DB2 for z/OS Development’s current thinking on some of the functions and features that are
      candidates for the next major release. It is still early in the development process, so the details
      will change. The intention is to give you some information on DB2’s future technical directions.

      John is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, Member of the IBM Academy of Technology, and one of
      the senior technical leaders inside DB2 for z/OS Development. He provides leadership to world
      wide customers in high-end database, transaction, and application systems - consultancy, design,
      performance and benchmarking.

      IBM Certified DB2 for z/OS DBA / Application Developer / Solution Designer(BI)

      Kevin Harrison holds an IBM professional certification as a Certified Senior I/T Architect with
      broad experience in application development, database management systems, architecture development,
      technical infrastructures, and system integration. He is a Senior Software Engineer with DB2 for
      z/OS Development at the IBM Silicon Valley Lab and a team member of a worldwide DB2 SWAT team for DB2
      on z/OS. Kevin draws on a wide range of experience from 28 years of involvement with DB2 on large systems,
      with 19 of those years at IBM as a DB2 technical specialist. Kevin has served as a DB2 educator, DB2 user
      group liaison, led many DB2 design/implementation reviews, and DB2/zSeries performance and tuning engagements.
      Kevin is certified in several disciplines for DB2 on z/OS and currently is a member of the IBM North American I/T
      Architect Certification board, and Open Group Master IT Architects. Kevin most recently, is one of the authors of
      the IBM ITSO Redbook “DB2 9 for z/OS Performance Topics”.
